Enabling digital development and ongoing innovation
Our client sells physical devices. Over time, it has enhanced its products with free digital support, but the development and maintenance of those services is expensive. The client asked Innovia to explore potential changes to its business models and their impact on digital innovation.
Innovia created a set of archetypes for how the client could earn money from digital tools. We estimated the impact of each one on the client’s profit margin. We interviewed key client stakeholders to understand their innovation processes and suggested what changes would be needed to implement each archetype. We recommended one archetype for the client to pursue.
Our work showed that the client does not need a fundamental pivot in its business model for digital tools, but needs to change how its innovation process works to make the current business model viable. The project ended with a workshop, where we agreed actionable next steps for how our client would engage with other functions in the business.
