Reducing the water footprint of soft-beverage manufacture
Our client is taking a leading role in reducing the water footprint of manufacture of soft beverages, and asked Innovia to recommend new approaches.
Innovia assessed the economic value of the salts produced by water purification, and considered a range of beneficial uses, such as soil improvers or construction materials. We gained insight from processes used by other industries, including agriculture and mining. Using process flow modelling, we showed how next-generation technologies, such as capacitive deionisation and eutectic freeze crystallisation, can be deployed. We succeeded in estimating the cost-performance of the resultant water treatment plant under a range of operating scenarios.
Innovia's recommendations are now guiding the design of next-generation bottling facilities in India, where water supply issues are prevalent.
