Benchmarking external innovation practice against cross-industry leaders
Corteva, a global agriscience leader, needs to integrate new technologies and business areas to achieve its mission of advancing crop science. Its venture arm, Corteva Catalyst, supports external innovation activities. To maintain leading-edge practice, Corteva asked Innovia to understand and build on external innovation successes elsewhere.
As experts in innovation, we understand the variations and commonalities in innovation practice, and what works well in different situations. We reviewed our many past partnerships to identify senior contributors with transferable experience, and interviewed ten of them.
In parallel, we drew insights from earlier research on similar themes, and investigated team structures, operating practice, and growth paths for business units in comparable situations. We distilled key learnings from our work, succinctly summarising important themes and action points.
Our client gained reassurance that it was executing industry best practice, and developed peer-to-peer connections in other industries. The client has a plan for maintaining internal alignment on its mission, and is prepared to make the best of maturing investments in the future.
