Improving access to restricted drugs
Consumers know they can get powerful medication on prescription, but less effective relief if they seek the convenience of buying over the counter. This trade-off is dictated by regulators. Merck collaborated with Innovia to develop a safe and reliable system to make some restricted products more conveniently accessible in stores, while meeting the approval of the regulators.
Innovia’s initial work focused on enabling technology, and we quickly identified the most consumer-friendly option. We then constructed an overall system architecture design that meets the needs of all stakeholders, including regulators and retailers. Innovia also demonstrated a smooth evolution path between the simplest, easiest-to-implement system and a more highly functional future system. We added significant value by presenting complex concepts in simple visual ways to communicate with and convince other stakeholders.
Merck is now taking the system to consumer trial.
