Find out how we designed and created working prototypes of disposable surgical instruments to replace sets costing over $30,000 in just eight weeks…
New Surgical Instrument
A leading surgical instrument company challenged Innovia to create a device that would allow surgeons to perform a new type of life-saving surgery.
Based on a deep understanding of both medical constraints and engineering feasibility, the Innovia team took a structured approach to developing concepts for the surgical procedure. We then established a framework for decision making that enabled us to prioritise the most attractive options. In the next stage of development, we used structured creativity and virtual prototyping in CAD to resolve key uncertainties, before creating physical models and prototyping fully functional surgical instruments.
Our final demonstrator was used by a surgeon to perform the new procedure successfully in an animal trial.
