Asset Tracking for Rolls-Royce


Rolls-Royce was examining the applicability of asset tracking technologies for efficiency improvement and cost reduction in a set of complex interlinked business processes, and sought external perspective in the demanding technical environment of aerospace.


We examined Rolls-Royce’s business processes and assessed the value of the technologies in cost reduction, production efficiency and other key value-generators. We conducted a creative review of the aerospace supply chain in conjunction with a detailed understanding of the attributes of the candidate technologies, which included RFID variants.


Our study found both similarities and differences between Rolls-Royce’s business and other industries, such as retail, in which RFID had already been applied, supporting the process of introducing the correct technology variants to meet its business needs. We also created a range of concepts for new business processes to exploit the potential of our recommendations.
