Context

The client, a premium brand in personal care, wanted to explore use of over-the-horizon technologies for removal of a bio-film.

Approach

We created a taxonomy of methods including water flow, water jets, lasers and ultrasonics. From the perspective of the fundamental science involved, we examined advantages, disadvantages, tunable parameters and potential performance.

Impact

We helped to rule out several technologies, saving the client time and resource. We identified some promising novel approaches that provided the foundation for a major R&D initiative.
